The brand collaborates with the Save Posidonia Project, sponsoring 10,000 square meters of this vital marine plant to safeguard Formentera’s ecosystem

With the arrival of warmer weather comes the new limited edition of Viña Esmeralda, inspired by the Mediterranean and with a purpose to protect it. The wine brand, embodying the essence of the Mediterranean, reaffirms its environmental commitment. This time it does so in collaboration with the Save Posidonia Project, an organization from Formentera (Balearic Islands) dedicated to the preservation of Posidonia Oceanica, a seagrass vital to the marine ecosystem of the island.

With this limited edition, Viña Esmeralda sponsors a total of 10,000 square metres of Posidonia meadows, one of the most important natural assets of Formentera. A UNESCO World Heritage, this endemic plant prevents beach erosion and maintains and oxygenates the underwater ecosystem, providing a habitat where over 400 species of marine plants and 1,000 species of animals feed and reproduce.

The bottle design is the creation of illustrator Lara Costrafreda and focuses on Posidonia. The artist has captured her vision of the Mediterranean with fish and other species swimming among the seagrass, in a delicate blend of green and blue hues painted on glass.

Because the Mediterranean is at the heart of its brand identity, Viña Esmeralda took on the mission in 2022 to care for it, linking its limited editions to projects focused on the conservation of the sea and its beaches. This year, it partners with the Save Posidonia Project, promoted by the Island Council of Formentera.

Viña Esmeralda Posidonia Edition is presented with the 2023 vintage. A wine from Catalunya Appellation of Origin, it is made with Muscat of Alexandria grapes that infuse the wine with its characteristic fragrance, featuring delicate floral and fruity notes. It is a smooth and seductive wine, with a sweet finish reminiscent of acacia honey, perfect to pair with Oriental and Asian cuisine, as well as seafood and fish appetizers.
