In Labastida, Alava Rioja, we find the Bodega Nuestra Señora de Remelluri, located in a former monastery of Jeronimos monks. The estate was acquired by Don Jaime Rodriguez Salis in 1967, when it made up 20 hectares. He set about slowly acquiring other vineyards that had been part of the original estate to attain today’s 154 hectares of which 105 are under vine. In recent years the Bodega has been practicing organic viticulture in the vineyard, doing away with synthetic products, herbicides or heavy metals, maintaining a balance throughout the estate and gradually moving towards full biodynamic cultivation.

Appearance

Nice pale golden yellow hue, very bright.

Nose

Medium intensity, needs a little airing in the glass. Pleasant, clean. Nice hints of ripe yellow fruit with hints of liqueur. Subtle smoky aromas are released upon swirling the glass.

Palate

Elegant, powerful. Hints of aniseed and the ripe yellow fruit is again distinct. Nice refreshing acidity. Long and elegant. Enjoy it with every sip!

Once again we have the pleasure of presenting a big Spanish white It is a serious wine, very complex and with a big personality that year after year earns it a top place on all the podiums. The formula appears simple: carefully tended vineyards planted on terraces, a mixture of grape varieties, winemaking skill and the use of noble wood without excess. But it is in reality an arduous task. Ana López Barrón arms the initial frame with Garnacha Blanca, complemented by up to seven foreign varieties, to create a delectable white wine which makes many reds, which try to stand up to it, look old and boring. As a white wine it is certainly a safe bet which is worthy of consideration when we stop thinking red for a moment and even more so, if we forget the dark supremacy for which Rioja is currently known. It pairs well with all types of dishes and a multitude of food combinations, all year round. It is a white for great dining occasions and it is wonderful to see how it ages in bottle.
