After a successful tenure at the Numanthia Termes bodega in Toro, the Eguren family from Rioja, set up the prestigious Teso la Monja winery in 2009.  Here they seamlessly combine a contemporary vision of fine winemaking with a philosophy founded on experience, tradition and expertise.  The winery is located in a wine region influenced by the course of the River Duero, complemented by a soft, rolling terrain and a special microclimate creating unrivalled conditions for the cultivation of the vine.

The property has over 100 hectares of native, ungrafted vineyards, with some vines as old as 130 years, dedicated to the production of its Alabaster and Teso La Monja wines. Vineyard work respects the environment and surroundings, with minimal intervention, perfect adaptation to the terroir, no use of herbicides or systemic products, and consistent with the bio-rhythms of nature.

Appearance

Beautiful deep, cherry colour with a bright garnet rim.

Nose

Delectable, with aromas of ripe, black fruit (blackberries and plums), with toasty notes from the oak. Fabulous stony, mineral backdrop.

Palate

Built on a solid foundation, this wine has it all: loads of fruit, thick, earthy tannin and an enveloping acidity.  Fine and juicy.

Comment

Victorino is made from Tinta de Toro grapes, from ungrafted native vines aged over 45 years, located in Valdefinjas, Toro and Villabuena del Puente, with yields of 15 hl/ha.

This vintage is notable for having maintained power, maturity and elegance, and for coming wrapped in an extraordinary acidity that gives it freshness, very important in sometimes warmer vintages.

A serious wine, which expresses itself with a subtle, elegant, yet powerful character, demonstrating that the rusticity of the Toro variety, if worked properly, can turn into finesse.

Recommended with an entrecote of mature beef with sauteed potatos.

Glass by RIEDEL,  GRAPE collection, CHIANTI /RIESLING model.
