Castell de Perelada is among the leading and most prominent wineries in Spain today. It is run by one of the country’s best winemakers, and invests much time and energy in the vineyards to recover forgotten areas, such as the Garbet’s steep slopes.  It is therefore able to produce wines, which represent excellent value for money, as well as high altitude reservas and estate wines of extraordinary personality. It even produces experimental reds to the delight of the wine critics. Castello Perelada sets the example  for many other wineries and is an icon within its region.

Appearance

Garnet ruby with purple tones

Nose

Intense aromas full of herbaceous nuances of wild red fruit.  Earthy notes and liquorice aromas against a backdrop of sweet spices derived from the barrel.

Palate

Medium bodied and full of flavour, it shows great balance between the fruit and the notes of fine oak, along with an excellent mineral freshness.  Very pleasant finish of medium persistence with earthy and chocolatey aromas and touches of balsam.

The Ex Ex Colección is a limited edition of "Exceptional Experiences".  Each year, Delfí Sanahuja, Castello Perelada's winemaker, makes small quantities of wine from experimental vines in a small winery where he carries out micro-vinifications. The best of these wines become part of this collection of unique gems. This 2010 is the Cabernet Franc single varietal, a French grape which was planted in Finca Malaveïna in 1999. It was aged for 15 months in Tronçais oak barrels, already used for one vintage. This edition has joined the collection of experimental wines and was considered by the Parker guide to be the best wine of its region in 2014.

Recommended with Girona beef tenderloin with black truffle sauce and mushroom purée.
